Magaruque Island is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago, off the coast of Mozambique. For generations it has been bound up with the local communities, who used the sea and its resources for fishing and for their living.
Magaruque grew into a small island of great natural beauty, marked by white-sand beaches, crystal-clear water, reefs and abundant marine life. Its position within the archipelago has also made it an important base for activities at sea.
In 1971 the Bazaruto Archipelago was declared a National Park, strengthening the protection of its ecosystems and biodiversity. Magaruque is visited today by people seeking quiet, unspoilt beaches and genuine experiences by the ocean.
