Bazaruto Island is part of the magnificent Bazaruto Archipelago, off the coast of Mozambique. The archipelago is known for its white-sand beaches, crystal-clear water, dunes and one of the country’s most important marine conservation areas.

The islands were formed by the shifting of the coastline and the movement of sand over thousands of years. Bazaruto has also become an important refuge for many marine species, including turtles, dolphins, whales, dugongs and a great variety of fish and corals.

For centuries the waters of Bazaruto were part of the life of the local communities, who depended on the sea for fishing and transport. In time, the natural beauty of the region began to draw visitors from around the world.
